Nice floor plan! I used to climb our guava and star apple tree. And my mom would scream her heart out when she cought me on the tree with my friends. Mom would also make dulce with ripe guavas. Super sarap lalo na pag kakagaling sa fridge! I also used to sip the nectar out of satan flowers, esp the ones planted sa oval ng church namin.

[...] A Meal (In a Restaurant, at Home, or Elsewhere) This would be all the lunches we had in our backyard during any non-working holiday (except Christmas and New Year's Day, of course). Family gatherings on lazy days spent just talking and playing next to a barbeque pit and exchanging turns on grilling pork chops, tilapia, mussels and aubergines, then finally enjoying the grilled delights with alamang, raw tomatoes and fresh fruits served on banana leaves, not to mention fresh coconut juice. Oh what I actually want to stress here is the family togetherness when such meals just stretch on and on. Let me quote Karen on her 'soul food' because it definitely reflects how I feel about those lunches in our backyard and how they influenced my foodie life. Karen says on LP IV: Long, Slow Eating (It's All Pinoy Soul Food!) [...]

[...] It is also a sweet, refreshing and filling snack served in dad's old carinderia. It is so easy to prepare it's a common snack prepared by mom back home since we were kids. Of course, freshly plucked from dad's banana trees. How fun can it get especially during hot summer days? It's like working real hard and getting rewarded. You need shaved ice, right? Remember this kitchen tool that works like a hand planer? Pangkaskas ng yelo. When we were old enough to use one we toned few muscles for the shaved ice we need for saba con hielo. How much sweeter can it get?Too bad until now I haven't found a single piece of saba here in Beijing or else I would be devouring a whole lot together with Cean who eats no other fruit except bananas.
