All these years, I really thought kiwi or the kiwifruit is native to New Zealand. As I have this kiwi photo for La.Pi.S.01, I kinda googled for some information about this fibrous-skinned fruit with green flesh, edible-crunchy tiny seeds and acidic flavor that add up to a very unique taste… and was I surprised!
- It is native to China and actually their national fruit.
- Seeds from China were brought to NZ in 1906 and the first fruits were harvested 4 years after.
- The name kiwifruit was only adopted in 1959.
O ‘di ba? Samantalang parating maasim ang mga natikman kong kiwifruit nung nandun pa ako sa Beijing. The ones I’ve had when I was in Brunei are a lot better and, yeah, as far as I can recall they were all from NZ.

definitely one of the fruits i love.;thats why i cultivated some in my garden.;but i will need to wait seven years before i will have my first harvest.;in the meantime i’ll just be enjoying this kiwi photo of fours

Iska, I love kiwi fruit although the seeds make my throat itchy. Hay, everything comes from China!
I am just curious about the name. If the name kiwi fruit was just adopted in 1959, what did people call this fruit before that?
